Partiendo desde Rio Blanco, la caminata (trek) se hace en dirección nor- este, con un desnivel de casi 1000 metros.

Alguien del grupo al que tuve la oportunidad de llevar a este emblematico lugar me pregunto:
Cuantas veces haz venido a esta laguna?
Acá es donde me inicie, donde entendí que hay mas que conocer que estar en un solo lugar.

Cada vez que veo la Laguna es una historia diferente; nunca es igual.

Adidas 42K: Mi Tierra Prometida

Es la hora y el momento: 7 a.m. Domingo 15 de mayo, Maratón Movistar-Adidas 2011.

De niño no me gustaba correr. Tuve que ir a terapia por mis pies planos. Veía a los niños disfrutar de los recreos en el colegio, sentado, bancado, pensaba: “algún dia no usaré estos enormes zapatos, y podré correr”.

Toda esta historia empezó con un compañero: Dante “Champi” Alegría. “Vamos a correr la maratón” -le anuncié- “y hay que entrenar”. Eso fue hace 12 semanas. Entrenamos a puro CrossFit Endurance.

Km 0: Empezamos con buena vibra, al ritmo programado.

Km 10: Paso a paso seguíamos sumando.

Km 21: Un poco de dolor en el talón derecho, pero manejable.

Km 24: Nunca habíamos ido mas lejos que esto, y lo tomamos dignamente: “A ver qué pasa”.

Km 27: Ritmo, sin acelerar ni disminuir la velocidad, nada de experimentar en este momento.

Km 30: Mirando adelante, viento fresco: Faltan 3 Pentagonitos.

Km 35: Ya falta poco. Deslizarse a través de lo desconocido.

Km 38: Inigualable. Acá es donde este deporte se distingue de los demás y hace que correr sea único.

Un Pentagonito más – como tantos WODs. Me duelen los pies, es innegable.

KM 40: Carliña nos esperó en el camino. Dichosos los dioses que la mandaron: Una Dama Completa y por eso estaré eternamente agradecido.

Entre el dolor y los pensamientos, recordé unos ojos radiantes de energía azul, los cuales me dieron la chispa que necesitaba.

KM 42: Veo la meta. Nada llega fácil, eso lo aprendí desde niño, hay que lucharla, aprender de los errores y volver, necio, una vez más. La Tierra Prometida, ese destino que nadie te puede regalar, uno tiene que ir a buscarlo.

Recordando mis años de velerista… esos años de cruzar mares en plena noche, bajo el cielo azul, gris, oculto, abierto, sunset o nocturno,
Constantes cambios de tripulación, rutinas de 4 a 5 horas… transiciones imborrables.

Porque empecé a las 8 p.m.?

Para encontrarme nuevamente con ese acido sentimiento de constante presión.

Ver en la partida a muchos de los Crossfiters me dio un sentido de orientacion, de calma en el soul.

Primera vez que corro algo asi. A puro Crossfit Training

Apretada partida – ir a mi ritmo – no alocarme
No es tiempo para glorias – Llegar es la tarea.

KM 8 – Como tantos Pentagonitos. Me sentí optimista.

KM 12 – Empieza la cuesta arriba
Delicadamente paciente con mi mente
Como en tantas montañas – siempre positivo

KM18 – El Rubicon
Ese lugar – ese place – el punto de no retorno.
Donde no hay espacio para arrepentimientos
Ya no habia marcha atras

Cruzar la meta y ver mi tiempo, fue excelente.

El USA de BMW ORACLE Racing ha recuperado hoy la America’s Cup para Estados Unidos después de 15 años. El trimarán estadounidense ha ganado la segunda regata de la serie por 5 minutos y 26 segundos, sentenciando el marcador de la 33 America’s Cup por 2-0.
La segunda jornada de competición de la 33 America’s Cup resultó siendo la definitiva. As you probably know - this days - my life has turn into a complete test three times a week at CF Peru. All the WODs... its amazing.
As much as I try to describe it to friends and colleagues, its just not the same.

The change in me is real, was never in doubt about the program - its what I was looking for in a long time.

As the days progress in this year, my new horizon is available with so many options... and now I will be heading for 5 days a week CF Endurance. That is what I want, that is what I need to get better and reach my potential physically and mentally.

Able to reach those higher mountains.

Cannot remember the day exactly when I did my first RX'd - I know it was sweet.
But, I know exactly the day when I begun to dance with Intensity.
Able to reach that dark, cold but liberating place where ANYTHING that matters is the task at hand.

Today was a great day, returning to the Blue Box was just what the doctor order.

At home...
Descansando, esperando cenar en compañia de mis padres y brother.
Este año ha sido by far, uno de los mejores por no decir el mejor todavia.
Hoy descanse y no hice nada... igual mi cuerpo se desperto a las 4:10 a.m.
Todos los dias son asi, no puedo cambiarlo.

Que paso este año?
UFF, de todo.
Viaje mucho, vi a mis amigos queridos en USA, Ty and Oscar.
Brian y Qian me ofrecieron su hospitalidad en LAX.
Ahora tengo una excusa mas. Hay un nuevo miembro de la family, se llama Val.
Y quiero ir a verlo... espero pronto.
Luego navegue como nunca hacia Mexico, cruzando desde Newport Beach hasta Ensenada.
Trekee muchas montañas y visite Cuzco nuevamente con mis amigos David y Marge.
Finalmente, el clima estuvo favorable y accedimos a Bosques de Zarate... despues de tres intentos.
Llegue a mi meta el 09 09 09 que fue El Misti con mi partner in crime Pepe; fue realmente magnifico.
YA no tenemos a Pelusa, nuestra wire fox terrier. La seguimos extrañando.

Empece una gran aventura en un lugar llamado Sala Azul.
Ahi fue donde encontre lo que tanto buscaba y en el proceso comparti las mas gratas y exitantes experiencias que un hombre como yo ha podido algun dia soñar.
Agradezco de eso a Felipe por empujarme y joderme constantemente para ir a ese lugar... eso nunca lo voy a olvidar; estoy eternamente agradecido.

When there's no where else to run...

My first real summit was at Huacapune (A Place I kept very deep in my heart), it showed me so much and it also provided something that I was missing for a while; Core Friendship.
Back in 2006, I was very involved into the sailing ocean thing. The mountains were there, but not as close as they all are now. It took me more than few months of listening to Christian and more to get me into exiting the waters and rapidly get uncomfortable at the highest altitude soroche hills.

... as I sat today in the waiting room to donate my blood, I started to recall all those events, all those glorious mountains and places I have gone with that crazy kid. Always powerful, so much gifted and stronger than me, so calibrated happy to push on the cold weather circumstances; anything can happen above 5000 meters.

Another headaches, another heartbreaks

"We made it JC - we made it... and nobody can take it away from us."

That was the phrase, the one that remains when I climbed Meiggs, El Misti, Neveria and my 2012 Cagua. It was Christian that first said it, it was not me - like so many think I did and read in this blog.

... It was time today to give back a little for so much he has provided through out the years since I know him. No doubt in my mind that obscure passages are approaching for him, but I know very deep inside that he will fight this battle as the once we did when the coldnest hit - minus cero... somewhere in the Andes.

Crossfit @ The Blue Room

It has been a little while since I post something.

As you all know (or not), I am very involve into an outstanding training program: Crossfit.

In my humble opinion, it is more than just the grueling mechanics, olympic lifting, aerobic exercises, physical and mental challenge. It goes beyond that. When I walk into this place call the "Sala Azul", and instant magic arise in me.

Just happy to be there... Period.

Today, after I finish the intense training, from the other side of the gym comes a man and he wanted to talk to me... and said:

"You look like you were overloaded in there, ready to get hurt or break..."

I almost answer to this man some unnecessary phrase or some incoherent sarcastic line. But, I decided to simplify everything:

"It is about the spirit of competition and the man/woman next to me"

He laugh... he kept laughing... I know he is - still - right now... I do not care.

OHS, Squat Clean, Scotty Bob, Fight Gone Bad, Chuck Norris, Fran... are the names that I either try to survive doing or live up to the challenge for the past 5 months. I can argue with anyone about it... but Crossfit has help put an attitude in me to reach and summit 5825 meters "El Misti"; when many honestly - really - could not believe - I made it.

I do not want to forget or let go - the characters of the Blue Room.

Everyone Queens and Kings of their own destiny, Maniac of their bodies, Brothers and Sisters in Arms, unconditional souls, partners in crime.

From the Amazon Beauties, the incandescent ladies of the 8 a.m., to the uncontrollable firebreathers of the last hour of the night - I totally dig them all.

For so many years, I thought I was nuts by living in my own wagon train, crossing oceans, climbing mountains, Freeway busting, Crazy Combis, walking the distance - but now I know... I am not alone.

Como empieza todo esto?...

Día que recuerdo muy bien, como si fuera ayer (mejor ante-ayer), me hice una promesa que días como este tan maravillosos solo hay uno y esa antorcha que una vez se encendió; no se apagaría.

Con eso en mente y perturbado por emprender una experiencia mas; escogí ese lugar al sur de Perú.Ese lugar se llama Arequipa.

Esplendida ciudad, con sus fallas tectonicas, caballos de paso, lanudos camélidos, extensos valles, mujeres bellas, playas extensas, sol radiante, luna llena; la cual esta rodeada de volcanes...
Uno de ellos es EL MISTI.

Esta ciudad hermosa construida casi totalmente en sillar, una clase de piedra volcánica blanca - Esta es la razón porque Arequipa se llama la Ciudad Blanca.

DIA 1 (Base Camp - 4800 m.s.n.m.)

8:00 a.m. Nuestro Guía - Gerald, llega al Hospedaje cerca de la Plaza Mayor y nos transporta en una 4x4 hasta las faldas del Volcán. El equipo se transporta dividido entre los miembros del Team y luego se empieza el ascenso al campamento base pasando primero por dos quebradas un poco angostas para luego desplegar las fuerzas vibrantes del cuerpo hasta los 4800 m.s.n.m.

Alrededor de las 4:10 p.m., llegamos al lugar indicado para armar la carpa y dividir el equipo y comida para pecnortar hasta la 1:00 a.m.La verdad que era un poco difícil tratar de dormir, primero porque era muy temprano, segundo la altura se sentía en nuestra dificultad para respirar y tercero el frío llegaba dentro de la carpa a -5°C bajo cero, no quiero ni imaginarme como estaba afuera.

DIA 2 (Summit Day - 5825 m.s.n.m.)

Llego el día "D", no dormí nada - una ansiedad única de cumplir un sueño y de no romperme en el camino. He leído y escuchado de muchos q el ascenso es fácil... Ilusos todos.

Yo estuve ahí, lo vivido nadie te lo quita y en cada persona esta saber sobrellevar el ego interno de decir algo que realmente no lo hez; ni será.

El ataque final a la cima empezó a las 2:00 a.m.
Frió intenso, vientos normales, relativos pero no violentos. Luna llena, estrellas brillando - ciudad blanca incandescente; radiante a los lejos en mi espalda titilando sus luces como abundantes luciérnagas en el espectro matutino. A mi derecha el Pishu-Pishu y a mi izquierda el Chachani.

Muchas cosas pasaron por mi mente durante las horas interminables que me tomo llegar a la cima. Preguntas directas de que porque hago esto y porque continuo estas aventuras.

Resumiendo, cada vez mis aventuras son mas complicadas, mas arriesgadas, más intercambiables, más fértiles, mucho mas del día a día. Voy a ser cruel en no explicar como fue y como no fue; porque si lo hago seria como revelar lo que realmente es y no es o de fue o no fue.
Cada persona guarda en su interior esa dicha de llegar a un objetivo.

A las 09:09 a.m. del día 09 09 09, mi llegada a la cumbre fue soberbia. La experiencia alcanzada y el camino tomado es lo que hizo de esta aventura - hasta el momento; la mejor de todas.

Look forward on the next 5 days. I am ready, better than before. More capable of other times. There is no turning back... Not this time.

Tech Tip # 2: Know When To Turn Back

During your journey, keep four important factors in mind:
The human element,
The conditions,
The terrain and
The timing.

At a turning point, analyzing these four factors will help you decide whether to continue or not.
For example:
Are the weather and route conditions good?
Is the terrain acceptable?
Do you have enough time?
How is the climbing party doing physically?

I have the NO happy opportunity to see individuals that have enough Petro (energy) to climb a mountain and reach the top. BUT, not sufficient energy to come down.

In about 8 days, I will measure all the above mentioned.

As I believe to be ready, I believe I am not. Still, my team and I will push hard to accomplish the goal. That goal that only few have been able to accept... until now.

Today is the 4th Birthday of my BLOG

Amazingly, it is still running not as strong as before... but still running.
Let see, I want to write something very cool today. Something that can totally inspire everyone.

I will start with: HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAKY

Today is also the birthday of my intrepid and candid friend Maky.
She is the one that inspired me to start this blog. I really thank her for that.
Most of the last four years Aventuras were between places that I thought not to return nor visit.
In the beginning, it was all base on poems and writing my day to day inquiries.

As time went by, it all become a bit more complicated. Basically, the Aventuras that I got involved become harder and my time got shorter.
Still, somehow, I did and still manage to come up with some new stuff to place on this so call diary.

Amazingly, every dream that I have dreamt little by little has become a reality and with that more and more new Aventuras.
Next month is a big month for me. That dream to hike a big mountain is almost there.
If I have to start tomorrow - I am ready.
One thing is certain, I have learned that you can never be more ready and fail trying.
So with that in consideration - I will just go and see what happens.

Y de arranque me enseño todo lo que uno puede y no debe preguntar.

Esto es una de las cosas que hago a las 6:10 a.m. Parte de mi training. Si lo quieres tanto, tienes que sudarla, que vivirla, que sufrirla.

A las 10 a.m., appointment con las universidades, luego almorze mi comida balanceada.
Caminé 5 kilometros a full.

A las 3 p.m. otro appointment con otra universidad llamada...

El Tio Renato llego a eso de las 5 p.m., Cool and Great verlo y charlar a few. Siempre es excelente conversar con él.

A Gallon of Water, Fruit, Flip-Flops and Ice Cold Beer

Before setting out on big routes with long approaches and weary descents, plant a gallon of fresh water, some choice fruits, a beer for each trekker and flip-flop sandals in the backpack. After the slog, the beer is for celebration, the fruit is to stimulate recovery, the water is a godsend and you'll be lovin' the flip-flops more than any of these.

We spend a lot of time thinking about the approach and the climb, and not enough time thinking about the descent, the ride home and recovery. These simple items can be stashed behind the back seat and forgotten about until you get down. The only other thing you might need after a big day is a Red Bull to offset the beer and fruit coma on the drive home.

Just like every woman I have ever met, every mountain holds its beauty, its kindness, its amazing taste and majesty.

The adventure started with my friend Pepe taking the cluster bus in Yerbateros to San Mateo.

The bus broke-down in the middle of nowhere (no, really) and without receiving any money back; we took another bus - this time eastbound to San Mateo.

At El Patron (San Mateo) (3,200 msnm.).

We slept well into the early ours of Sunday. Early bird start, cause there was a good chance that the bad weather will hit us on the way up. Nice enough, it was not to happen... this time

The trekking starts at Rio Blanco (3,550 msnm.) it was 6:30 a.m.

The moist and the coolness of a new rising day was felt, but it was time to move on.

This was a new experience for me, this was my first time coming to this place

The pictures can say so much and I know there are worth a thousand words... but it is indescribable what you feel in your body when pushing above 4000 meters and beyond.

The air is thin and the notion of not encountering a combi or a rare pedestrian hoping for glory is a true plus for a City Boy

Trekking hard above 4000 meters - Lots of things go to my head, many ideas, dreams and hopes.
At around 10:50 a.m., we saw the horizon of the snow picks, displaying the tender white freezing spectacle; it was going to be a great moment.

Its a classic training spot not far from Lima, where all the hopes and dreams become a reality for a trekker.
Finally, after 5 hours of pushing hard, we reach the Lake Rapagna

My friend Pepe and I, for the usual picture of the summit. Another goal, another experience - well deserved.

After taking some rest and many pictures, we decided to head back to where we came.

Right where we started... at Rio Blanco

This was a great training, which proof that we are getting ready for something a little higher and bit more complicated.

It is what it is... This trek was dedicated to my father.
He always wonders where did I got all the adventure stuff in me.

Recuerdo bien como todo esto empezo...

Lo recuerdo tan bien que esos sueños de subir montañas; se han hecho realidad una tras otras. Varios años han pasado de mucho dolor, agonía, alegría y hermandad. Hay tanto por recorrer, hay tanto por ver y explorar... Ni siquiera he empezado.

Fue en este lugar donde lo que empecé; tenia que concretarse.
Los que suben montañas en nuestra Lima adyacente, saben exactamente el nivel de dificultad de este lugar. No fue esta vez la excepción.

Lima - Barranco

Dicen que la espera es la madre de todos los persistentes. En una noche rara llena de incompetentes rasgos derivados de nostalgia ochentera, Richie (A.K.A Soul 80's searcher) y yo, acudimos a la presentación de Theremyn_4; en la enigmática fuente de toda musica limeña: La Noche de Barranco

Haciendo hora y viendo las bandas setting up en el escenario, me percate de una mujer vibrante; probando sonidos de voz... previos de lo que iba a llegar desplegar la noche.

Antes q empezára la musica, hubo la presentación de un video de esta banda trujilla llamada: Jardín Solar. A ellos sin lugar a ninguna duda, tengo q verlos.

Sonoradio se levanto el stage personificados por Joi (Voz) y Danny eM (Teclados, Secuencias, Voz)
Hace mucho tiempo que mis oidos y ojos no son exigidos con tanto fervor y potencia. Ver a Sonoradio Live es una de esas joyas misteriosas de la escena musical peruana:

Mi amigo Richie - genuino patrón de los 80's music - me dijo para tomar tal aventura: Lima Night Style.

Sabado 6 de junio - 10:00 p.m., no hay nadie at the door excepto el cool bouncer "Your Names Not Down Your Not Comin In"

Al entrar al Mao Bar, se persive lo que tantos 80teros anhelan, buscan y encuentran.

Esas tinieblas, negrura, tenebrosidad, lobreguez, opacidad, nebulosidad y sobre todo ritmos de electro marginales que quedaron decadas atras; pero surgen de la nada por una noche mas.

Hace muchos años, quizas desde Savage Republic en Hollywood (Circa 1989), que no veia una banda Live demostrando tanto empuje, entrega, ganas, placer, incognita, 110% calidad y desafio.

Simplemente: "SAY NO MORE"
Arian1 desplega su album Evolution, de una manera impecable con canciones como:

He quedado completamente satisfecho y al mismo tiempo mediatico. Me falto aliento para comprender lo excelente q fue este show. Espero verlos pronto una y otra vez.

Arian1 es una de esas bandas que ya no hay, que ya no quedan y es de los que se atraven o pueden - a verla en vivo.

With that - El Gringo Criollo and I headed up north to the city of Valencia, to encounter another rough and synthethic day... Only for the headstrong

The new ride is X2 (new for me, but it actually has 2 years on the go). It sure looks intrepid and heart pounding. Without any more inadequately complements - it did not disappointed.

Its the sum of all fears and else!!!

This is a must in SIX FLAGS - a true roller coaster

A new ride is being constructed called: Terminator Salvation - The Ride (it looks kind of cool)

We pretty much hit every ride in the park including:

The following day, my chance to see how it is Downtown LAX like intrigued me. Mostly, because the last time I was there, the place was like a cartoon gothic scene from a B-Movie.

Staples Center - the Lakers basketball team has reached the Western Conference Semifinal; this place gets pumping at nite during those electric games

A brand new JW Marriott is being constructed and nearly finish

Grand Theft Auto... awesome game, played hard on the PS

...and I walked by the those clauster nerve holder streets.

The Disney Concert Hall - a MUST

A Frank Gehry designed building opened on October 23 2003.

The hot brown afternoon light through the buildings. Palm trees, movie billboards, light gray traffic lanes striped with endless twin tracks or rubber. And cars, rivers of cars, floods of cars.

I saw a brand new Rolls-Royce and an old VW 1958 beetle (California plates: Classic) both were black. A yellow 1960 Corvette note-to-tail with a green 2007 model. I figured if you watched LA traffic long enough you could see one of every automobile ever manufactured... maybe even a Tico.

Once again, I have accomplished a goal. Many more will come. It is time to go south to the city I now belong. Many thanks to all my friends for welcome and hosting me. You are all in my heart.

Simplemente porque el ambiente, ritmo, sensación, cultura y playa se simplifican dignamente en este lugar. Me gusta mucho y me trae mucha buena vibra.

Victory At Last

The famous Capital Records building, still holding strong.

The construction of the building was ordered by British company EMI soon after its 1955 acquisition of Capitol Records, and was completed in April 1956. The building is located just north of the intersection of Hollywood and Vine

Newport To Ensenada Yacht Race 2009

Arriving to LAX is INDEED a great feeling.

The Newport to Ensenada Yacht Race is one of those classic events that every sailor in the world should at least do once or maybe twice.
It start in Newport Beach, CA and finish in Ensenada, Mexico.
my friend Brian was kind enough to get me access in a boat and together with a bunch of salty-water sailors we hit the water and headed south to Baja California.

An experience like no other.

Sailing is one of my favorite sports and doing it with good friends definitely tops the scores all around.

I am back. It has been a little while.
From all the mountains to hike and oceans to ride; its great to be back.

Today was a great day
Its like I was never gone, and I´d extrañe the good times with the friends from work.
Those times are precious and I now understand it very well.
The negatively is an option for some, but not for me.

My buddy Daddy Charly sent me an email days ago with a wonderful song.
This song and band goes way back my college years and it reminded me so much of awesome moments... that will never come back.

Por segunda vez, los dioses de las montañas nos niegan llegar a los bosques.
El trekking de 6 horas se hizo interminable, pero asi es la vida de muchos - unas de cal otras de arena. Prometimos los mismo cuatro, que la proxima vez, seria la vencida.

Huanano Waterfall

San Jerónimo de Surco in Huarochiri, Lima-Peru.

Prior to my quest of Bosques de Zarate (next week), I decided to get a bit of adrenaline pump in my old legs. My initial project was Palakala Waterfall, but for some strange reason; I ended up on this amazing path route to Huanano Waterfall.

The usual trek to this place takes about 30 to 35 minutes, very easy access to anyone with enough lungs and willing to hike the rock and sandy path.

NOW, here is where it gets kinky or perhaps funny... There are sings that lead you to the waterfall. Actually, there is as easy as taking the first grade wanna be adventures to a field trip.

Right where the last sign ends, there are two path ways one to the left and another one to the right. My navigation skills are always at 100% so this was going to be an easy one. But, NO - it did not turn that way. I headed right - taking other way (which I will know in 3 hours), after a way up route - my altimeter was clicking the 3570 meters when I realize there is no waterfall around here nor anywhere.

The mountain path was turning very green, mist became fog, which then turned into rain, suddenly the access path was getting smaller and smaller, on top of that, the temperature dropped to about 10 degrees. It was time for the Mountain Hardwear gear (worth every penny), ate some crackers, drank some water and started my descent. Of course Mr. Rex had two major boom to bust with some rocks, which I hit hard, but nothing major (I Guess!!!) kept going down, about 1 hour at medium speed and the temperature considerably rise a bit. This is good for me, except that now the chill winds from the Andes were in my face (What else now...).

Took a deep breath and below on my right I could see the small capilla approaching and the freaking sign again (Turn Here) well there was another left path after all, which for the love of my astigmatism eyes did not bother to see (3 hours ago) and there it was...

Well, I am here now

Lets give it a try and see how this waterfall really is (Kodak Moment) Another amazing adventure. Alone with Hobbes (my Side-Kick mascot) Its in the spirit to find new places that makes my heart beat harder and gives my legs the go-go sign to keep going.

Look so forward on next week; it’s going to be a full-power to the top type of weekend.

Located in the valley of Supe, north of the capital of Lima. The trip took around 3 hours and 30 minutes (average) and it was all there is and more.

Caral's chief excavator, Dr. Ruth Shady Solis, has called Caral "the Mother City" of the Americas. This city of a Late Archaic culture was built and occupied from around 2600 BC to 1900 BC (by carbon dating.)

It is the oldest urban center in the Americas, predating Maya, Mississippian, Aztec, and Ancestral Puebloan cultures. The city covers 150 acres and includes pyramids, plazas, and numerous large buildings. The location is general for the city center, not a location for a specific structure. There are some common features of the Caral Supa Civilization and later Peruvian cultures, including the use of the quipu, a method of record keeping using knotted strings. A quipu found at Caral dates back to the earlier days of the city, nearly 5000 years.

Dotted with pyramid temples, sunken plazas, housing complexes and an amphitheater, Caral is one of 20 sites attributed to the ancient Caral-Supe culture that run almost linearly from Peru’s central coast inland up the Andes. The ruins changed history when researchers proved that a complex urban center in the Americas thrived as a contemporary to ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt — 1,500 years earlier than previously believed.

The Only Way to Eat

You might think that I only know trekking, sailing and music, because as many individuals have told me: I was trained and educated in U.S.A.

Many others have said: "You are just Lucky"

Well, I usually underestimate myself and the wonderful fact that I am bless with carisma, will, desire, purpose and writing skills.

This past Christmas, at my parents house, we ate chicharron (Pork Rinds) for dinner. Not your usual dinner table gathering in "Navidad", but certain an exit for the usual Turkey fever around the family tables all over Lima.

My Mom, a sophisticated woman raised in the district Limeño of "Miraflores" and blessed with the knowledge and schooling of legendary Queen of Peruvian Gourmet: "Teresa Ocampo" - decided that it was time to eat something different; something crunchy.

Chicharron:

Marinade the pork with salt, pepper, cumin, mint and a little of vinegar and pour the love of oil fever in the skillet.

With Fried Potatoes (not McDs), but the original ones, some rice (if necessary)

You have a powerful Christmas Dinner.

Here, in my motherland, there are so many options to eat a different dish every day for a four month stay. Every dish as good or better as the other. Truly honest - that is a fact.
I have eaten in many countries and restaurants through all my reduce life and one thing remains the same, with any change; eating in PERU... is the Only Way To Eat.

Cerro Blanco - Nazca

Solo horas han pasado desde mi regreso from Santiago de Chile, no mucho sleep y Brian Ward, Hobbes y Yo nos enrumbamos nuevamente en otra aventura.

Los calificativos y demas sites dicen que Cerro Blanco localizado en el Valle de Nazca, con una altura de 2078 metros sobre el nivel del mar; es la duna mas grande del mundo.

Dicen... porque para describirlo, hay que ir a buscarlo y una vez mas:
"NADIE te quita lo vivido"

Llegando a Ica para luego continuar a Nazca - Cruz del Sur fue la empresa que hizo posible el movimiento logistico desde Lima.
Arribando a Nazca: Miercoles 8:25 p.m. Plaza de Armas de Nazca
Gringo Criollo esta striking a pose.
Al dia siguiente, el ascenso empezaria alrededor de las 3:00 p.m. A lo lejos se puede ver la duna Cerro Blanco

No queda mas que ir para arriba. Por el lado West es la mejor manera de describirlo

Ofuzcada, silenciosa, inquebrable... justo ahi, esta la cima.
El sol irradia censura y la brisa pegajosa se prende de la piel, diciendo - ya llega la noche celestial.
Arena - Sand - Arena - More Sand...

Atardecer callejero, Sol sediento de descanso, ansioso te guardas - por un dia mas.

Esa noche acampamos en plena duna - eran las 6:35 p.m. Busco en mi diccionario de adjetivos lo que fue mirar la noche y sus estrellas fugazes, Luna mengüante calificadora de pecados... pero no existe tal conjugación en mis lenguajes. Exitosamente - Indescriptible.

Diciembre 5, 2008: My Birthday

La alarma de Brian sono exactamente a las 4:30 a.m.
Tiempo suficiente para levantarnos, empacar los sleepings y empezar el ultimo ascenso a Cerro Blanco. El ultimo push para el ascenso... musculos y sed no se mezclan, se muerden.
Siendo las 6:53 a.m. del dia 5 de Diciembre 2008, la cima y sobre esas nubes cubriendo Nazca - llegamos al destino señalado.

Yo recuerdo cuantos trofeos levantamos juntos, yo recuerdo cuantos momentos buenos y malos vivimos juntos... han pasado muchos años y seguimos ON TOP.Brian (A lo Lejos) mirando el panorama
Las mochilas y los sleepings - fiel elementos, hechos para ir tan lejos como uno vaya.

Manto Blanco de nubes cubriendo el valle de Nazca. Es muy temprano y a medida que llega la mañana, esas nubes se despejarán para dar luz a una ciudad llena de vida y taxis tocando claxón hasta no poder.
Bajando por el lado East de Cerro Blanco, es realmente abrumador ver tal masa de arena

Ahora que he puesto todas estas fotos, pienso que hay tantas cosas más por ver, conocer y experimentar.

SI - es verdad - no todos tienen la oportunidad de aventurarse; pero para mi solo existe una cosa que siempre tengo presente: El ir adelante.

Nunca rendirse, solo continuar, porque el dia llega y se va para nunca más volver.

Chile - Viña del Mar / Valparaiso

Después de tomarnos many Cusqueñas, comer en la bistecca con un very cool grupo de amigos, decidimos enrumbarnos en una nueva aventura.

NOS, suena plural, ya que esta vez - el Gringo Criollo - estaría lideando el camino al Sur.

Chile - Viña del Mar / Valparaiso y demas playas, fue lo escojido.

Viña del Mar:

33º 2' 0" Latitud Sur

71º 32' 30" Longitud Oeste

El viaje fue corto, via LAN, siempre tengo gratos recuerdos para esta aerolinea - es el Cadillac del Sur. Anyhow, desde el arribo a Viña se puede ver el movimiento impulsivo de su población, acentos urbanos, lindas chicas y una Teletón que estaba por empezar.

Era Sabado 29 de Noviembre - 9:00 a.m.

Ya luego, Brian se contacto con su amigo Victor que vive en Miraflores (Un Barrio lindo de Viña),
Nos acogio con los brazos abiertos y sin dudas dio un extremo cariño, aprecio y respeto para con este hermano Peruano.

Descansamos un poco, salimos a recorrer las calles y sobre la marcha fuimos a "La Quinta Vergara", vimos el show de Cascanueces. Estupendamente puesto en escena y bajo el frio viento del atardecer, presenciamos uno de los mejores shows en vivo teatrales; simplemente magnifico.

El Hotel O´Higgins, sencillamente radiante en plena plaza de Viña del Mar.

Avenida PERU, justo al costado de la costa de Viña del Mar, interesante postal.

Iluminación caribeña, toque nostalgico del Art-Deco en Viña del Mar.

La propuesta de ir a Valparaiso no se hizo esperar.

Aca en este balneario colorido, radiante de sol y oceano guapo, se encuentra una de las casas del famoso escritor Pablo Neruda. Ahi nos dirigimos...

Aca tomamos un taxi para que nos llevara a La Sebastiana

A lo lejos el Puerto de Valparaiso, visto desde la terraza de La Sebastiana

Famosa casa de Pablo Neruda:

“Siento el cansancio de Santiago. Quiero hallar en Valparaíso una casita para vivir y escribir tranquilo. Tiene que poseer algunas condiciones. No puede estar ni muy arriba ni muy abajo. Debe ser solitaria, pero no en exceso. Vecinos, ojala invisibles. No deben verse ni escucharse. Original, pero no incómoda. Muy alada, pero firme. Ni muy grande ni muy chica. Lejos de todo pero cerca de la movilización. Independiente, pero con comercio cerca. Además tiene que ser muy barata. ¿Crees que podré encontrar una casa así en Valparaíso?”

La hora del almuerzo no se hizo esperar y gracias a Javiera (Dichosos y Bellos los ojos que te dio Dios), tomamos rumbo a unas cuadras abajo de La Sebastiana para encontrar el Restaurante: Oda Pacifico
Si alguna vez están por Valparaiso, tienen q parar a disfrutar de la comida, vinos y excelente vista que ofrece este restaurante.

Los Cerros de Valparaiso destacán por sus vistas panoramicas, colores radiantes en las fachadas de sus casas, y por sus funiculares...

*Lunes, Diciembre 1ro, 2008:

Despues de descansar mas de lo debido y tomar un magistral desayuno, nos dirigimos a recorrer las playas y balnearios del norte de Viña del Mar.

Balneario de Quinteros, chevere lugar en proceso de remodelación. Ubicado a 24 Kilometros al norte de Concón

De regreso pasamos por uno de los yacht clubs y vimos una serie de J24s, posiblemente fueron los que compitieron en el Sudamericano 2008.

Ultima toma de Viña del Mar al atardecer. Limpia, cuidada, tranquila e irradiante. El verano se acerca y esta escena cambiara por completo. Los veranos en Viña son full-force.

*Martes, Diciembre 2, 2008:

Antes de regresar a Lima, teniamos que ir a Isla Negra. Ahi se encuentra otra de las casas de Pablo Neruda

Quedo eternamente agradecido con Victor, Adriana, Fabiola y Belén por su acojida en Viña del Mar. Prometo regresar y visitarlos cuando mi camino a Rapa Nui se haga presente.

El Aeropuerto Internacional Arturo Merino Benítez de Santiago de Chile, me dice q es tiempo de partir. Una aventura mas a terminado y otra nueva comienza.
